Election Details

It's that exciting time of the year when elections begin for GradGov's next leadership team! Any graduate student is eligible to run in these elections who plans to enroll as a graduate student in the 2022-23 academic year.

Attached to this email is the elections plan created from relevant sections from GradGov's Constitution, the candidate criteria, position descriptions, campaigning rules, and the minutes from the Elections Subcommittee meetings on January 28, February 4, and February 8, 2022.

The Elections Subcommittee is composed of current Executive Board members who will not be running for re-election. The Subcommittee is looking for additional members to continue elections planning and to facilitate elections-related activities. Senators who are not running for Executive Board positions may fill out this form if they would like to join the Elections Committee.

The period to file for candidacy is open from midnight on Tuesday, February 8 until midnight on Tuesday, February 22. During this time, candidates must fill out this form to indicate which position(s) they are running for. In addition to their primary position, each candidate may select up to two additional positions they would like to run for in case they lose the election for their primary position. Candidates should submit a headshot and a personal statement, and may also choose to submit a resume or cv. Candidates are strongly encouraged to submit a Letter of Objectives for each position they wish to run for, outlining the reasoning why they are running for the position and their plans should they be elected. Letters should be size 12 font and a maximum of 3 pages if single-spaced or 5 pages if double-spaced. These materials can be submitted via a link on the filing form and they must be submitted prior to the filing deadline of midnight on Tuesday, February 22.

Constituents, Senators, and current E-Board members will have a chance to announce their candidacy publicly at the February 18 Senate meeting. Senators will be given access to view the folders with all candidates' letters and any other information provided. These documents will also be posted on GradGov's website in the coming days.

Early voting will begin on Friday, February 25, following the Presidential debates. Live voting will open on Friday, March 4, with staggered deadlines for each position throughout the day. More information regarding the voting process will be given to Senators at the February 18 Senate meeting.

We hope this will be an exciting, engaging election season! Feel free to share this call for candidates around your constituencies. GradGov will also advertise Elections in the Newsletter this week.

Please feel free to reach out to GradGov's Director of Advocacy, Taelor Logan (tal81@georgetown.edu) if you have any questions.
