What is GradGov?
GradGov (Graduate Student Government) is the primary Representative Student Body for Main Campus Graduate Students, both Masters and Doctoral Candidates, as well as Medical Center Students. The organization is charged with advocating for improved conditions for graduate students on campus, supplementing graduate student life at Georgetown, and organizing professional development opportunities. The organization also is tasked with collaborating with the various Student Governments in each of the respective Georgetown Graduate schools.

The official representative body of Georgetown’s graduate student population rebranded over the summer. The group previously recognized as the Graduate Student Organization (GSO) is now Graduate Student Government (GradGov). Revamping the organization is not just an opportunity to develop a new logo—it is also a symbolic gesture of the revisions that this Executive Board has made to its priorities. Georgetown graduate students need strong and accurate representation in order to enact real change on campus.
While GSO was once an organization that focused largely on social events to bring together the student body, GradGov’s focus has shifted toward community building and advocacy initiatives to better serve the graduate student body. Along with these goals, we hope to maintain (and improve) an incredible social events roster.
The GradGov Executive Board worked all summer to develop the top advocacy points for graduate students at Georgetown, and we are thrilled to see changes unfold throughout the year as we work closely with the administration and passionate students. A description of these initiatives will soon be up on our website, http://www.gradgov.com.
As a part of GradGov’s rebranding, we’ve gone digital. Our constituents can rely on our website and our social media platforms for any and all updates, important information, and events. From blog posts, to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, as well as a weekly email blast sent out to all graduate students, there are many ways for students to stay in the GradGov loop and get involved.
Above all, it is important for the graduate student body to know that GradGov is here to serve YOU. We are here to be your liaison to the administration. If there are ever any concerns you have about graduate student life on campus, reach out, whether it is in person, through social media, or email. Our sole purpose is to create a community around our student population and ensure that we are well represented in this institution. Our Executive Board meetings and General Assembly meetings are open to all graduate students, and we welcome any suggestions on how we can improve and better represent each and every one of you. In collaboration with you, we hope to build a connection to Georgetown and to one another to ensure the most out of this experience as Georgetown Graduate Students.
